Designed with an acoustically inspired shape and a different taper than the Traditional, the Focus barrel helps to produce a sound that is dark, even, and resonant, all while improving intonation and articulation response. The Focus barrel is especially suitable for bringing "core" back to older instruments, or for those musicians looking to transfer resistance to their instrument from their mouthpiece/reed set-up and improve/lower pitch in higher pitched areas of the clarinet, specifically throat tones and left hand clarion pitches.
The Focus barrel was originally designed for Brian Corbin's old R13 that became too easy and free, lacked some of the original core, and suffered from some typical intonation issues that affect "blown out" instruments.

The Focus barrel plays well on my 1960's Buffet clarinets both the Bb and A. I use the 65mm for the A which makes it play very well in tune and free blowing.
thank you Brian.
I'm so happy to hear that the barrels are working out so well for you! The Focus barrel was originally designed for older Buffet clarinets / instruments that have lost some of their core / working resistance, so it makes sense that your 1960s Buffet would be a good fit. Thank's for supporting our small business!
I have a focus barrel since last august, I play with a brand new Buffet RC and this barel, waw, wonderfull
Thank you Langis! I'm glad to hear the Focus barrel works well for you on the Buffet RC!
The Focus is an excellent barrel. It helps to enrich the tone quality while improving the basic intonation. Besides this Focus 65mm barrel, I also have the Focus 66mm. I recently ordered a Focus 67mm synthetic for a new instrument that plays quite sharp. I also have the Royal Polaris adjustable barrel. I am very pleased with these barrels.
Thank you for the great review and honest feedback! We greatly appreciate your continued support.
The Focus Barrel gives the instrument that special ring. You can really feel it on open G, an even resonance. The pitch between overtones seems to line up with much less effort, so the registers are more in tune internally. The altissimo above D is a pleasure to play. Very stable, melodic, well voiced. The barrel also helps make articulation more consistent across the registers, with just the right level of resistance. It takes a lot of knowledge to make a barrel that plays this way. A good 65 is hard to find so Iâm very happy!
I have used this Focus barrel (66mm) on my Uebel Superior and my Buffet R13, with a Vandoren M30 D mouthpiece and Vandoren 56 3.5+ reeds. Sound quality and intonation are excellent with this barrel. Very pleased with this product.
